Creative learning

Freedom to express: our art teacher guides our young students through a collaborative art piece.

At Sekolah Gunung Merapi, we believe that young people who are nurtured to be creative grow up into adults who are confident and innovative. Traditional schools place greatest focus on developing and rewarding academic attainment, which is great for the top students, but creates a demotivating environment for students who aren’t academically gifted and especially demotivating for children with learning difficulties.

WHAT WE DO

  • provide a ready to use ‘creative corner’ where young people can come at any time to draw, paint, sketch or collage
  • hold a weekly creative workshop open to students or any age
  • regularly involve our students in mini-projects to decorate and improve the school environment
  • where possible we also hold classes in other creative areas such as in singing, music and dance
